- Sugar (2nd ingredient) (caution) — Tasha: There’s more added sugar than strawberries in this cup.
- Carmine (caution) — Tasha: A red color made from insects. Natural, but some people are allergic and it isn’t vegetarian.
- Potassium sorbate (ok) — Tasha: A common preservative. Low concern for most families.
- Cultured low fat milk (ok) — Tasha: Contains milk. Live cultures support gut health.

1. Read the first three ingredients
They make up most of the product. If sugar or a refined oil is in the top three, that’s what you’re mostly buying.
2. Count the sugars
Sugar, cane juice, corn syrup, dextrose, fruit juice concentrate and maltodextrin are all sugar. Several small ones can add up to the biggest ingredient.
3. Scan for words you’d skip
Dyes, preservatives and hidden allergen names usually sit near the end. Snap the label and Tasha highlights the ones on your avoid-list.
